Barrefigure Frequently Asked Questions

Where are Barrefigure classes held?
Our 9:30am class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 8.30am class on Sunday is held at the newly relocated, purpose-built Ponsonby School of Dance, 5 Lincoln St, Ponsonby.

What to expect in class?
Barrefigure classes follow a 60 minute format. We begin with a 15 minute warm-up and upper body exercises, followed by 25 minutes of leg and seat exercises, 15 minutes of core conditioning and we finish with a five minute relaxation and stretch. A complete body and mind workout in one hour! Choreography and intensity will vary each class to keep it interesting and prevent you from plateauing.

What should I wear to class?
Wear comfortable clothing that you can move in. Socks are recommended and non-slip socks are available for purchase at the studio for $20.

What should I bring?
If it’s your first time, please arrive 5 minutes early so we can introduce ourselves and ask if you have any injuries etc. We will provide all the equipment necessary to have a great workout, but you are encouraged to bring a water bottle and yoga mat if you have one. Please silence your cell phones before class, as this can be distracting to the teacher and your fellow students. For health and safety reasons, clients are not permitted into the studio room eight minutes past the start of class.

Can I attend class during pregnancy?
Yes, Barrefigure is a very safe workout for pre- and post-natal care. Founder and instructor Marysa is a qualified pre- and post -natal specialist and a mother herself. A few appropriate modifications make this class a very thorough and effective workout, and it is fantastic to help prepare your body for labour and keep your body toned, making it much easier to regain your shape after baby is born. We recommend emailing us to get the link our 30 minute prenatal video that explains all the modifications you need to know to attend class safely. Usually these modifications are only needed from the 2nd trimester onwards. Please email or speak to us in the studio to find out more.

How often should I attend a class to see results?
Clients can see results in as little as eight to ten classes. Attending class three times per week, you can experience a significant increase in strength and flexibility and notice improved tone overall. Greater results are achieved with higher frequency per week and continuity over time.

Is there parking?
The studios are near the Ponsonby Rd end and access is via the driveway. There are a few car parks available on the driveway behind Marysa’s car, on street parking or the carpark across the road.

How do I pay for my class?
To guarantee your spot in class it is essential that you book and purchase in advance through Mindbody online, via our website. Credit or debit cards are accepted and please note that our payment system is not ‘real time’ – so even though the initial transaction has gone through, and your class is ready to use, it may take several days to process (especially over the weekend) and that “Ezidebit” will appear on your statement. If there are insufficient funds you will be contacted to rectify and Ezidebit will charge a dishonour fee of $14.95 the next day to your credit card. Please call if you prefer to book via the phone. We accept walk-ins subject to availability. We also accept cash, bank transfer or credit/debit cards in the studio.

What if I need to cancel?
Please log into Mindbody and cancel online. You can also email or text Marysa. Unfortunately if you don’t attend, or cancel within SIX hours of the class start time, you will be charged for the class.

What does it mean if I’m on the waitlist?
This means the class is already at full capacity and you have been added to the waitlist and if any clients cancel, you will be moved up into class. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that you will be added to class. However, if you are added you will receive an automated email confirming you are now booked into class – as long as you have checked ‘subscribe to email reminders & notifications’ in your profile. The studio will also do their best to personally contact you.

What if I’m worried about my fitness level/lack of experience?
We strive to make our studio a place where everyone will feel comfortable – all ages, genders and fitness levels. Barrefigure is a low-impact workout and as long as you can hold on to the ballet barre, you can do Barrefigure! No dancing experience is required. While the Barrefigure technique is high intensity, it is very low impact, meaning you’ll get a great workout without putting excessive stress on your joints. We focus on tiny isometric movements and use your own body weight to sculpt your physique.
