Marysa Theiler — Founder/Owner and Master Trainer

Marysa began dancing in Christchurch at six years of age and has more than 10 years of professional dancing experience. She graduated from the New Zealand School of Dance in 2002, securing a contract with the Royal New Zealand Ballet where she was a member for seven years, performing Corp and Soloist roles.

More about Marysa
She moved on to guest in the West Australian Ballet in Perth, and as a Principal artist in Neglia Ballet and Dance of Upstate NY. After hanging up her pointe shoes in 2010 she became the Executive Assistant to the Ambassador at the New Zealand Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York. She also gained her Pilates Mat Certification through LindaFit Pilates and taught at various gyms and studios around Manhattan. At this time, Marysa was also exposed to Barre classes and loved the similarities to dancing, such as the precision, poise and concentration required. It had remarkable results on her body (without the nine hours required in a dance studio each day!)and from this point, she was hooked. In 2012 Marysa joined the team at Barrecore, the first barre studio in London. She obtained her barre certification in the UK and was a Master Instructor teaching group and private classes. Clients included pre- and post-natal mothers, young professionals, over fifties, socialites, actresses, celebrities and even royalty…if you try, you might even get her to name names! Marysa is a qualified pre- and postnatal Pilates specialist, through Carolyne Anthony and the Centre of Women’s Fitness. After six amazing years away from New Zealand, the pull of home was inevitably strong and Marysa knew she wanted to bring barre to New Zealand. Barrefigure was launched in September 2014 and she has combined her experience of professional ballet dancing and teaching in New York City and London to create her own style of barre classes. She was honoured to be a Lululemon Ponsonby Ambassador for two years and loves pushing clients to create strong beautiful lean bodies and help them find their inner strength. Marysa become a mother to Alexa in December 2016 and Thomas in June 2018 and credits barre helping her to have a healthy pregnancy and labour and getting back into shape soon after.
